Joy of Troy Men Deliver Gifts to Mothers

The men of the Joy of Troy church in Troy, New York, honored the church’s women in a way many will not soon forget. Since the members have not been meeting in person because of the COVID-19 physical distancing restrictions, Louis Loppe, Joy of Troy church Men’s Ministries leader, wondered what they would do this year to honor the women of the church for Mother’s Day. The Lord answered his prayer via a text from Allan Gonzalez.

Gonzalez and his wife, Aileen, who is an avid baker, had discussed making muffins as gifts for Mother’s Day. Through a series of meetings on Zoom, and under Allan’s leadership, the men pulled their time and talents together to create a plan to build upon Gonzalez’s original idea.

On May 9, after the church service via Zoom, which was also streamed live on the church’s Facebook page, the men presented a special Mother’s Day tribute that included songs from the children, a prayer of dedication, and words of appreciation to all the women of the church. Later that same afternoon, eight brave men hand-delivered some 55 gift bags filled with Aileen’s muffins, a chocolate bar, and a potted plant, as well as a note of appreciation. Each of the men wore face masks and practiced physical distancing during their deliveries.

The women were pleasantly surprised by the visitors. All women received a bag, not just those who are mothers. Women who are not members of the Joy of Troy church, but have visited and remained in contact with the congregation, also received bags.
