New York Conference (NYC) continued to work with its leaders and lay members in spite of the pandemic. The most recent version of the conference’s yearly Lay Training Series (LTS) took place virtually through Zoom and Facebook.

From February 19 to 21, Orville Browne, director of Spiritual Care and Education at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland, and NYC representatives Miguel Crespo, president; Claudio Gomez, executive secretary; Dan Whitlow, Youth Ministries director; and Reynolds Rodriguez, communication director, presented topics of interest that covered aspects related to spiritual care, emotional care, evangelism, security, and youth ministries.

The first phase, Friday night, was dedicated to healing and evangelism with interactive presentations by Browne and Gomez, respectively. Saturday afternoon featured a presentation for the youth by Whitlow, while Sunday morning gave the participants the opportunity to attend a presentation about church safety and COVID-19 by Crespo, while Rodriguez presented information about social media strategies for effective engagement.

Dozens of people connected for each session. Many indicated that they were grateful and blessed by the presentations as they were inspired to ask questions and to think about ways to keep the church relevant during the pandemic.
