GNYC Schools Begin Year With Growth, Dedication, and Blessings

  • Education, Greater New York Conference

The summer months were anything but quiet for the Greater New York Conference (GNYC) schools. While most communities were resting, our principals, teachers, and students were actively preparing for another year of excellence, and the results are already shining through.

SUMMER SUCCESS STORIES
Many of our schools ran summer programs focused on reinforcing math and reading skills, ensuring students were ready for the academic challenges ahead. At Greater New York Academy, a select group of ninth graders went even further by enrolling in calculus and college-level courses. Against all odds, these students kept pace and excelled, earning very high grades and surpassing expectations. Their success is a testimony to their determination and the dedication of teachers who continue to go above and beyond. Truly, to God be the glory!

EQUIPPING EDUCATORS FOR THE MISSION
The new school year launched in August with the first Professional Development Day for all principals and teachers across the conference. The day began with a spiritual and motivational devotional led by Alanzo Smith, GNYC president, who dedicated the educators to God’s service. Workshops throughout the day provided practical tools, strategies, and encouragement, equipping educational staff to meet the needs of today’s students with excellence and faith.

PROMOTING ADVENTIST EDUCATION
In addition to school preparation, the Education department joined Smith and several principals to promote GNYC schools at Camp Berkshire during all of the conference camp meetings. This outreach created new opportunities to share the blessings of Adventist education and invite families to join the conference’s growing school system.

A JOYFUL BEGINNING
As September opened, all schools across the GNYC territory welcomed new and returning students enthusiastically and warmly. Two schools, Whispering Pines School and South Bay Junior Academy, launched new early childhood programs, expanding the foundation of Adventist education for the youngest learners. South Bay Junior Academy also celebrated a special moment with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open a new playground. Whispering Pines began the year with a prayer breakfast hosted by the Home and School Association. The breakfast included an anointing ceremony, dedicating staff, parents, and students to God’s service. The Spirit of God was present in a powerful way.

LOOKING AHEAD IN FAITH
This summer and the start of the school year remind us of God’s blessings and the unwavering commitment of GNYC educators. As Ellen G. White said, “We have nothing to fear for the future, except that we shall forget the way the Lord has led us, and His teaching in our past history” (Life Sketches of Ellen G. White, p. 196).

The Greater New York Conference Education Department moves forward, united in mission and committed to excellence. With God’s guidance, may the coming school year bring growth, achievement, and blessings for GNYC students, schools, and communities.
