At a time when many marriages and families face significant challenges, Southern New England Conference (SNEC) Family Life Ministries (FLM) is expanding its ministry. Building on the work of previous leaders Juan Matías-Muñiz and Zenaida Mejías Matías, SNEC FLM has added seminars for teens and children to its annual Mental Health Symposium and launched a digital devotional for couples.
At the 8th annual Mental Health Symposium on Nov. 1, 2025, current FLM coordinator John K. Amoah, a SNEC pastor and Certified Family Life Educator, presented two sessions for teens: “When Anxiety Feels Bigger Than Me” and “The Pressure to Be Perfect.” Educator and mental health coach Marilyn Ravina and Lisa Drew taught children’s classes titled “How God Helps Us with Our Emotions” and “The Fruit of the Spirit.”
During the symposium’s main sessions, mental health professionals and health care providers offered practical insights on strengthening mental and spiritual well-being. Joseph Connelly presented “Faith under Pressure,” outlining warning signs of spiritual burnout and offering guidance on rest and healthy boundaries. Natasha Francis addressed causes of depression and anxiety and shared pathways to healing. Laura Harris explored the connection between mental and physical health and highlighted habits that support emotional wellness.
On Dec. 9, 2025, Amoah launched Together in Grace, a weekly digital devotional for couples.
“Our vision is simple,” Amoah wrote: “one devotional each week, one conversation at a time—building strong marriages, healthier homes, and a more united church family across New England. May every reading spark prayer, open deeper communication, and remind couples that God still works miracles in relationships surrendered to His love.”
