Atlantic Union Conference Responds to Greater New York Conference Statement Regarding Harmful Comments Made by Former Pastor

  • November 2021
  • Gleaner Staff
  • Atlantic Union

The Atlantic Union Conference joins the Greater New York Conference and the North American Division to heartily condemn any rhetoric or behavior that perpetuates violence against women or any person. The remarks and sentiments expressed by Burnett Robinson, former senior pastor of the Grand Concourse Seventh-day Adventist Church, are damaging and harmful. The Atlantic Union Conference acknowledges that rape and sexual assault are crimes. Period. The Seventh-day Adventist Church does not believe in nor endorses any violence against women. The Atlantic Union Conference will continue to work closely with the Greater New York Conference in all endeavors to further the understanding that this type of discourse is repulsive and unequivocally unacceptable. We join the Greater New York Conference in praying for those who are survivors of violence and abuse, and we pledge to advocate for men, women, and children who are still living with this terrible reality.

Pierre Omeler, President/Secretary
Elias Zabala, Treasurer
