Joy of Troy church members made and delivered a total of 60 lunches for Joseph’s House & Shelter (Kendal House) in Troy, New York, on the last Sabbath in January. Joseph’s House & Shelter has a van that travels through Troy each afternoon, making deliveries of sandwiches to the homeless in Troy.
The lunches Joy of Troy assembled included sandwiches, granola bars, mandarin oranges, and two cases of bottled water. Due to COVID-19, the Gonzales family volunteered to make and deliver the lunch bags. Joy of Troy members plan to perform this ministry quarterly in 2021. Until it is safe to meet as a large group for such an activity, a different family from the church will volunteer to make the lunches each time.
In response to the compassion initiative, Joy of Troy church members received a response from the Joseph’s House & Shelter development assistant Andrew Barnes, “Thank you for supporting Kendal House’s work on the Outreach Van with your donation of bottled water and sandwiches. . . . Your gift is helping us provide support and housing services to the individuals living on the street in Albany.
“We couldn’t do our work without caring friends like you. With your help, we will reach even more people in need of housing and shelter in Albany this year.
“While our overall vision is for everyone in the community to have safe and affordable housing, we also do what we can to alleviate the stresses endured during episodes of homelessness. Your gift helps us do just that.
“We are so pleased to have you as a friend of Kendal House. Again, thank you for your support and gift.”
Joy of Troy members are blessed to help meet a need within the Quadrant and to be the hands and feet of Jesus. As mentioned in a previous article (see Gleaner, November 2020, p. 12 ), the church in Troy, New York, has cordoned off an area around their church which they refer to as the Quadrant. In the Quadrant, they are strengthening relationships and touching hearts in a meaningful way by providing much-needed services.
