The Northeastern Conference held its first Day of Prayer and Fasting for 2023 on March 29. This day was notable, not only because it was the first day of prayer and fasting for the year, but it was also during Women’s History Month. In honor of the month, the day featured several dynamic female pastors of the conference: Donnett Blake, Amanda Hawley, Patricia Langley, Michelle Mota, and Petrice Wideman.
Each of the pastors preached sermons that inspired, encouraged, and motivated. Hawley shared a compelling message inspiring participants to “wait for what the Lord has to say to [His people],” as Jehoshaphat and the children of Israel did in the Old Testament. Langley shared the importance of having faith when praying. Wideman delivered a message of comfort, ensuring viewers that God is “still in the business of healing” and that He seeks to heal their physical bodies, spirits, and communities—a holistic healing based on the story of the paralytic man. Mota challenged participants to bear good fruit to go along with their “outward appearance” or their leaves. Finally, Blake reminded the viewers to be fervent and persistent and to never give up when they pray.
The day was a blessing of praise and worship, special music, powerful words, and prayer. Members were able to submit prayer requests on Facebook, YouTube, and in person, and conference officers prayed for the various areas of the conference and their leaders.
Hugh Wesley Carrington, Northeastern Conference Prayer Ministries director, and Michelle Mota, Northeastern Conference assistant ministerial director and Brownsville church pastor, continue to encourage members and nonmembers of the conference to participate in this quarterly day of prayer and fasting, either in person or through the live stream on Facebook and Youtube, and look forward to the blessings that people will experience as a result of their participation.
