The grand opening of the Shekinah Community Center marks a significant milestone for the Southern New England Conference (SNEC) in collaboration with the City of New London in Connecticut. The event, which took place on February 25, showcased a seamless program highlighting a joint effort between various ministries and interested parties.
Notable figures attended the event, including New London Mayor Michael Passero, Connecticut state Rep. Anthony Nolan; and New London City Council members. Kenroy Malcolm, SNEC ministerial director; Yves Francis, SNEC Adventist Community Services, Personal Ministries, and Sabbath School director; Calerbe Aguy, Shekinah Haitian church pastor, and a diverse gathering of church members and Haitian community members were also in attendance, reflecting the inclusive spirit of this community-driven initiative.
The origins of the Shekinah Community Center trace back to a group of young professional Haitian adults who in the spirit of “Total Member Involvement” recognized the needs of their church and the broader community. Their successful securing of $100,000 in grants from the City of New London underscores their dedication and determination to make a positive impact.
The vision for the Shekinah Community Center is comprehensive, encompassing services such as refugee aid, counseling, translation, immigration assistance, and more. This holistic approach reflects the project initiators’ foresight and compassion, addressing the community’s multifaceted needs.
During the event, political leaders acknowledged the significance of partnering with these young adult professionals, viewing it as an opportunity to propel the community forward. They encouraged other young adults to engage in similar initiatives, emphasizing the transformative power of community collaboration.
In his address, Yves expressed heartfelt congratulations to the project initiators, emphasizing their mission’s importance and confidence in their ability to succeed. Yves reiterated the commitment of ACS to supporting community outreach initiatives and providing moral support to the endeavor.
In conclusion, the grand opening of the Shekinah Community Center represents a successful collaboration between the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the City of New London, and dedicated individuals. May God continue to bless this initiative, helping it to thrive and enrich the surrounding community.
