Westvale Celebrates a Virtual Prayer Walk

  • April 2021
  • Reynolds Rodriguez
  • New York Conference

Things at the Westvale church are done differently due to COVID-19, but that does not stop ministry from happening. In the past, before COVID-19, the Prayer Ministries and Health Ministries teams joined together to conduct a prayer walk for the church and church school. They did not let the virus prevent that from happening this year.

Leaders held the first prayer walk of 2021 virtually. Instead of walking in the church or church school, Joan Payne, Westvale church’s faith community nurse, led the walk around the church via Zoom. Payne showed pictures of the different rooms or people—Seong Cho, Westvale church senior pastor, the audiovisual team, officers, and more—and then someone said a prayer for the different people, rooms, activities, and ministries of the church.

Sue Hayford, Westvale church Prayer Ministries leader and one of the church school teachers, led out in the prayer walk around the church school, Parkview Junior Academy, showing pictures of the different rooms and students. Various people then said a prayer for them.

Payne and Hayford are planning a prayer walk once a quarter this year because they realize that prayer is especially important for the church and church school. Payne feels it is important for the Health Ministries team to join the Prayer Ministries team in these walks since prayer is a part of spiritual health and exercising (walking) is good for one’s physical health.
